What is the American Civil War?
The American Civil War started in early April of 1861 and it ended early April of 1865. It was caused by tensions between Northern and the Southern States. Eventually, Southern States decided to secede from the Union and form their own country. They called themselves the Confederate States of America, or the Confederacy. The remaining Northern States grew angry at the idea of the Confederacy and this just increased the tensions between the two parties until a war broke out.
